There were key words that I heard in this excerpt from an interview with Dr Eddie Glaude, the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University. I’ve listened to the interview more than three times now. Is this who we are? It is one of the questions posed to our nation. Dr. Glaude speaks of America’s sins and its refusal to acknowledge those sins. He speaks of the legends and myths told about the inherent goodness of the nation and the ugly underbelly of this country. He honestly tells us that this country has been playing politics on old hatred. He also tells us, in the greatest truth bomb, that our exiting leader is a manifestation of the ugliness within this nation. Is he wrong? He can’t be after what we witnessed on January 6, 2021 at the White House. He says it has happened in every generation and I know it’s the truth. The question is: Are we going to change? Or are we willing to continue sacrificing lives unnecessarily, every generation? We need to decide how we will continue to move forward.
